Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional problems that come with possessing this handicap in everyday life. Firstly, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, because these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue due to social stigmas that come with drug abuse. However, alcohol and drug treatment counselors who offer rehab to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges these clients face.
