Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life which are unique and distressing. Such troubles may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or any other significant issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women may also become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction issues than males because of this. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific concerns which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, and some centers that offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her children.
