LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel comfortable in a traditional rehab facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which have to be resolved in order to get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for substance abuse, and is also an example of something which can be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life without any drugs and alcohol.
