Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional rehab settings have fallen short, such as dealing with situations within a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other serious issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males as a result. After this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender specific problems which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and several centers which provide treatment services to women offer client beds for her children.
