Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very useful in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life which are unique and painful. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other really serious issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women may also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness as a result of drug abuse issues than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug and alcohol treatment centers that offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific problems which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities which provide rehab services to women provide client beds for her young children.
