A group home for anyone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home will help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. People who reside in a group home might be involved in rehab services while in residence, or might be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, however it is a feasible short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
