Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to take part in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time each day or a few days per week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a really small amount of clients. For somebody with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehabilitation choice.
