Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in therapy and rehab services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This is very helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation facilities which offer treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial treatment choice.
