Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven very helpful in circumstances where traditional rehab settings have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations in a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women could also become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender-specific problems who have prompted their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and some facilities which provide rehab services to women provide client beds for her kids.
