A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending those who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home will help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home may be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at one point live independently outside the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it's a sensible short term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together.
