Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where traditional rehab settings have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and painful. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other really serious issues that happen to be specific to women. Research shows that women could also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness due to addiction issues than males because of this. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Just like coed facilities, drug treatment facilities that provide rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender-specific problems who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, plus some centers that provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their children.
