LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT might not exactly feel safe within a conventional treatment facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for abusing drugs, and is an example of something which could be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence in order to lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
