Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very useful in circumstances where traditional treatment facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations in the women's life which are distinctive and painful. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or any other really serious issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women may also get embroiled in drug use more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness because of dependency problems than males as a result. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug treatment centers that provide treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both standard and gender specific issues who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their children.
