Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or any other really serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women also can get embroiled in substance abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness because of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed in order that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender-specific concerns who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, and a few programs that provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
