LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT might not feel at ease in a traditional treatment facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which must be resolved so that they can get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and it is an example of an issue that will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
