LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This may be an extremely tough and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe within a traditional rehab program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors issues which need to be resolved to be able to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for drug abuse, which is a good example of something would be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life without any drugs and alcohol.
