Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for people involved with drug abuse, as those that have mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to to feel some type of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors can help men and women through a thorough treatment plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing substance abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure setting is essential to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their program and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things which should be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally stable and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more effective coping methods so they are able to better handle life circumstances more effectively after they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
