Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very useful in situations where standard treatment facilities have fallen short, such as dealing with situations within a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or any other really serious issues that are particular to women. Research has revealed that women also can get embroiled in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness due to dependency problems than males as a result. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed in order that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug treatment programs that provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific problems which may have brought about their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, plus some programs that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for her children.
