Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for many who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment centers which offer rehab on a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation option.
