LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a quite challenging and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe inside a conventional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is also an illustration of something which will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
