A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and help for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but additionally, there are group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending individuals who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents in the group home may be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to be able to at some time live on their own outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, yet it's a feasible short term option for those who want to get their lives back together again.
