LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is sometimes a quite challenging or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel comfortable in a conventional treatment center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved to enable them to get better. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the event that their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and is also a good example of something which would be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life without any drugs and alcohol.
