Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehab settings have not meet expectations, like dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women also can become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Just like coed rehabs, drug treatment centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender-specific problems who have triggered their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the constructive support from other female peers, and some programs that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
