A group home for somebody who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending those who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home will help offer an acceptable environment to help maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents inside a group home could be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently not in the group home. By way of example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it's a practical temporary option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together.
