LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This can be a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel comfortable within a traditional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which need to be resolved so that they can recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for substance abuse, and is also a good example of an issue that could be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life free of drugs and alcohol.
