Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations in a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other really serious issues which can be particular to women. Research shows that women could also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender specific issues who have brought about their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from their female peers, and a few programs which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
