Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a significantly better option than time in jail or heavy fines for individuals who have already been convicted of any type of drug or alcohol related crime. For example, a person who has been found guilty of dui of alcohol or drugs may be eligible to obtain treatment services because of their problem as opposed to serving time in jail. The judge could even order that the individual receive treatment, either alone or together with other consequences. First time offenders specifically are often given the opportunity go with a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is well-advised that they take advantage of it when it is an option. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is far more effective and efficient to invest effort and time into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been done to observe how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who take part in treatment have better chance of remaining out of the system following treatment.
