TRICARE is medical insurance which is offered to members of the military of the United States. Substance abuse inside the military is more common than one would think, and the necessity to provide rehabilitation to these individuals is a priority. TRICARE covers a number of rehab services to handle alcohol and drug dependence including detoxification services, and also rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient settings. People with TRICARE will obviously be required to get a prior authorization before partaking in any type of rehab service, which can be arranged using a regional TRICARE liaison. If an inpatient program could be the preferred treatment option, TRICARE will cover twenty-one days or one inpatient stay in that center per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are certain limits regarding the length of time a TRICARE member can remain within an inpatient facility that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30-45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy that may be very useful, as it could help include loved ones in the healing and process of recovery. No member of the military should fight this battle alone, and there are professional rehab counselors ready to help today.
