Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis daily or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed a much more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small amount of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs that provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehab option.
