Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is often a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel safe in a traditional rehab center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which need to be resolved in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug abuse, and it is a good example of something would be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
