A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continual support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Instead of sending people who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar facility, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents in a group home could be taking part in rehab services during residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently away from the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, however it is a viable short term option for individuals who making the effort to get their lives back together again.
