LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This can be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel at ease in a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be handled to enable them to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and it is a good example of an issue that will be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence in order to lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
