Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment you might usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services part-time each day or a few days a week. This is often helpful for individuals who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehab choice.
