Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where standard rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations in the women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness because of dependency issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific concerns which may have brought on their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their children.
