Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, like dealing with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness because of drug abuse issues than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific concerns who have brought about their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the constructive support from their female peers, plus some programs which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
