Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven very helpful in situations where conventional treatment settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and traumatic. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women may also get involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, and some facilities that offer rehab services to women offer client beds for her young children.
