Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual conduct because of drug abuse could have caused the individual to contract the sickness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug use or as a pre-existing problem before their drug use problem, typically require treatment services tailored to satisfy their specific needs and problems. Many of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never care for themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. Consequently, they arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while dealing with other crucial issues. Besides the obvious requirement to deliver medical solutions during rehabilitation, people who have HIV/AIDS must also tackle more deeply rooted issues which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Often, individuals have situations within their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive conditions in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation counselors will focus on as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
