Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to handle both addiction and mental health issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common circumstance for those involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health problems often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some sort of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help men and women using a detailed rehabilitation plan all directed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health whilst dealing with alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe environment is essential to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their program and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally stable and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which helps them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are better able to handle life situations well when they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior answer.
