Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which deliver rehab to address both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in substance abuse, as people who have mental health disorders often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some form of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people through a detailed rehab plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also dealing with substance abuse issues. Providing a safe setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which could cut across their program and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or any other things that need to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally healthy and abstinen t whenever they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are better able to deal with life situations more proficiently once they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior answer.
