Sadly, the simple truth is that tens of millions of people make the decision to operate a vehicle while intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. Doing this not merely puts one's life at risk and puts passengers and others in danger as well, but being caught driving drunk (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) will more often than not result in serious penalties including driver's license suspension or cancellation, monetary penalties and also incarceration. Quite often someone who has been found guilty of DUI or DWI ultimately struggles with an underlying substance abuse problem. The court system understands this, and it is therefore inclined to provide DUI and DWI Offenders drug rehabilitation rather than other severe consequences for crime. Agreeing or obliging to participate in drug and alcohol rehab as a DUI/DWI Offender may not completely eradicate other penalties of the crime, but sometimes decrease the degree of such consequences to some large degree. Particularly if the person willingly participates drug rehab and is a first time offender. Studies show that a lot of folks who do receive drug and alcohol rehab for a DUI/DWI offense stay out of the courts for similar charges down the road.
