LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially unwanted. This is often a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Someone who is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a conventional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT rehab provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors issues which need to be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is an example of an issue that can be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
