Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard treatment settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in the women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other really serious issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women may also get embroiled in abusing drugs more easily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender specific problems who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from their female peers, plus some programs that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
