LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT might not exactly feel safe in a conventional rehab center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which must be resolved so that they can recover. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and it is an example of something which can be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
