Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where standard treatment settings have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues that happen to be specific to women. Research has shown that women may also get embroiled in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction problems than males as a result. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, professionals help women target both common and gender specific issues who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and several programs which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
