LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This can be a very hard and painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel comfortable in a traditional treatment facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be resolved so that they can recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This circumstance is an extremely frequent trigger for abusing drugs, and is a good example of something which can be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
