Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual behavior as a result of drug use may have caused the individual to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either due to their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem before their drug use problem, frequently require treatment services tailored to satisfy their specific needs and challenges. Some challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely care for themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their health. Consequently, they arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority while dealing with other important issues. In addition to the obvious necessity to supply medical solutions whilst in rehab, individuals with HIV/AIDS will also need to deal with more deeply rooted problems which brought about their alcohol or drug use. Often, individuals have circumstances within their lives which are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to drugs or alcohol, including oppressive situations in their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the concerns which rehab counselors will focus on in HIV/AIDS rehab services.
