LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is often a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel comfortable within a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which should be handled to enable them to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for substance abuse, and is an example of an issue that would be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
