Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off substance abuse, or dangerous sexual behavior due to substance abuse could have caused the person to contract the disease. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their drug use or as a pre-existing condition just before their drug abuse issue, often require treatment services tailored to meet their particular needs and challenges. A few of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medications they need to preserve their own health. Therefore, they arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other critical concerns. Apart from the obvious necessity to deliver medical solutions whilst in rehab, those that have HIV/AIDS must also tackle deeper issues which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Frequently, individuals have circumstances within their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to use drugs or alcohol, including oppressive situations within their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the concerns which treatment counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
