LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This can be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel at ease within a traditional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be handled to be able to get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and is also a good example of an issue that would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life free from drugs and alcohol.
