A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which offers continual support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home will help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. Residents in the group home might be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside the group home in order to at some time live on their own outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, however it is a practical temporary option for those who are trying to get their lives back together.
